Carlos Jesús Cornejo Chacón was born in Santiago do Chile on December 29, 1961. He graduated as a journalist from the Universidad Católica de Chile, in 1984, and worked as a radio announcer and editor. In 1986, he moved to São Paulo. He worked as a reporter, photographer, editor and graphic producer for several years, contributing with articles and photographic reports for several publications, such as the newspaper Folha de S.Paulo and the magazines Horizonte Geográfico and Eco Turismo. He held several photographic exhibitions, including Crystals: Flowers of the Mineral Kingdom; Brazil, Mineral Garden; Atacama Expedition: Travel to the Dryest Desert of the World; Easter Island: Land of the Rocks Giants and South Sea Islands.
 
A mineral collector, he has a collection of more than a thousand specimens, besides a library specialized in mineralogy. He was the founder and editor of Jornal das Pedras between 1995 and 1998, publishing several articles on mineralogy, gemology, paleontology and speleology. He is a full member of the Instituto Histórico e Geográfico de São Paulo.

In 1991, in a partnership with Silvia Rita dos Santos, he founded Solaris Edições Culturais e Produções Gráficas, dedicated to the publication of books of cultural interest. In co-authorship with João Emilio Gerodetti, between 1999 and 2003 he published the three volumes of the work Lembranças de São Paulo: A Capital Paulista, O Litoral Paulista and O Interior Paulista, followed by Greetings from Brazil, in 2004, Railways of Brazil, in 2005, Ships and Ports of Brazil, in 2006, and Do Brasil para as Américas, in 2008. In 2010, he launched the first edition of the book Minerals and Precious Stones of Brazil. In 2012, he published Nau Brasilis, the History, Trajectory and Resumption of Brazilian Shipbuilding, and participated in the book Kasato Maru: a Alvorada do Novo Mundo.
 

 



João Emilio Gerodetti
has a Chemical Engineering degree from the Escola Politécnica da Universidade  de São Paulo and a Business Administration degree from  the  Fundação Getulio Vargas. Born in the  city of São Paulo on April 16, 1939, he  is  an  illustrator  and  painter,  with a keen interest in  urban  landscapes.   Mr. Gerodetti has shown his art in individual and group exhibitions. He is also the owner of an extensive collection of postcards and   books related to São Paulo State and to many Brazilian cities.

 


Andrea Bartorelli
was born in São Paulo in 1941. He graduated in geology in 1965 and worked as assistant to professor Viktor Leinz in the Geology and Paleontology Department of the Faculdade de Filosofia, Ciências e Letras of the Universidade de São Paulo. In 1969, he obtained his master’s degree in geology from USP with the dissertation Reconhecimento Geológico da Parte Setentrional da Cordilheira Huallanca, Peru.

In 1970, he began to work as a geologist at engineering projects, mining and environmental consulting firms. In 1997, he defended a doctoral thesis at the Universidade Estadual de São Paulo, entitled As Principais Cachoeiras da Bacia do Paraná e sua Relação com Alinhamentos Tectônicos. In 2006, he created the Museu de Minerais de Parati, Rio de Janeiro. Exhibitions: Museu de Arte de São Paulo Assis Chateaubriand, MASP: Amazônia: Tapeçarias de Andrea Bartorelli, 1979; Minerais, Minérios e Gemas Brasileiras, Associação Brasileira de Gemologia e Mineralogia / Departamento Nacional da Produção Mineral, and O Brasil dos Viajantes, 1994, where he worked as geosciences scientific collaborator. Co-organizer and author of chapter VI. Petrobras / BECA. 2004. His mineralogical collection consists of nearly one thousand samples, the vast majority of Brazilian origin. Starting in 2010, he took part in the organization of books on the works of geographer Aziz Nacif Ab’Sáber, of zoologist Paulo Emílio Vanzolini, on the construction of the hydroelectric power plant of Estreito in Tocantins and of the book entitled Geologia do Brasil.
