A Portrait of Brazilian Cities

Largo do Rosário, now Praça Antônio Prado, around 1905. The Confeitaria Castellões building, at center, was inaugurated in 1893 and became one the city’s busiest establishments - a meeting place for intellectuals, politicians, and bankers.

The square was a focal point for various businesses, including bookstores, banks, dental offices, hat shops, and coffeehouses.
