THE POSTCARD IN BRAZIL

A Portrait of Brazilian Cities
Carlos Cornejo e João Emilio Gerodetti

A view of Avenida São João from Praça Antônio Prado. The tree-lined area at left is where the Edifício Martinelli would be built in 1929. The building across the intersection, at the corner of Rua Líbero Badaró, housed the famed Café Colombo. The extensive Rua São João grew with the city, and in 1911 the street was widened and transformed into an avenue.
